Welcome to Phoenix Arts Martial Arts for Kids!
Welcome to our website and THANK YOU for considering Martial Arts for your child. Phoenix Arts' Kids Martial Arts classes are an excellent choice for giving your child a strong start on life. We teach your child important life lessons, including appreciation for teachers, parents, and peers while learning the basic techniques, philosophies, and virtues of martial arts. We teach students from the ages of 3 years old and all the way through adulthood!
On a regular basis we get parents bringing their shy children in, telling us how shy their child is and that they would like to gain some confidence to participate in activities and at school. We've taught kids martial arts classes for years and we've seen every kind of personality you can think of. Every child is different and we design our classes and work with you and your child to make sure that each child has an opportunity to learn and grow, no matter their learning style.
Is your child constantly online, playing Xbox or watching YouTube? Are your children struggling with self confidence, or have difficulty engaging with peers or authority figures? Do they experience a lack of motivation or an inability to focus?
Discover how we build your child's confidence, focus, self-esteem and an immunity to negative peer pressure to strive for success in school and life.
Below we will be telling you about what our focus is in our classes, and what methods we use to achieve our results. Take a look at what we do, and see if our philosophy in our classes lines up with your goals as a parent, and if what we teach would be beneficial in your child's life.
We look forward to seeing you and your child in their first class!
Martial Arts For Children:
Increase CONFIDENCE Through Having a Safe Place and Room to Grow
Confidence is the difference between what you think you can do vs. what you can actually do.
We provide an inclusive atmosphere that allows the child to see that one, it's a safe environment and two, by giving them small tasks that eventually lead into bigger ones, they can gain the confidence in themselves to explore and confront new challenges both inside and outside of our school with a sense of drive and purpose.
LISTENING SKILLS Through Exercises and Opportunities to Share
Our exercises have set guidelines to follow and so the students have to ensure that they're paying attention, which also helps with their comprehension, so they can complete the task at hand.
The opportunities to share teaches the children that there is a time and place that they can have their say but at a designated time and not over someone else. The world is big, loud and new to them. They want to find their voice and we give them the chance.
SPORTSMANSHIP Through Both Solo and Team Activities
Losing is not anybody’s idea of fun, but we all need to learn how to accept a defeat gracefully and move on. We teach students that losing is part of life – and it’s what you do after you lose that tells people who you are.
Though martial arts is often an individual sport, we also cultivate an environment of supportive teamwork where students root for one another through a combination of solo and team activities.
FITNESS & MOTOR SKILLS Through Movement Skill Based Games
Martial arts is one of the best cross training programmes out there for a lot of reasons. One of them is that it teaches and trains so many areas that carry on to other aspects of a student's life.
Whether it's hand-eye coordination, balance, ambidexterity or reflexes, their skills are built up and improved upon regardless of their current level. If you're running, jumping, dodging, rolling while being active and having fun, then fitness is a by-product. And that's what happens in our classes. All the children, without realising it, become fitter, stronger and more active thanks to the activities that they enjoy doing.
FOCUS Through Set Tasks That Promote Concentration
Getting young kids to pay attention can feel like an impossible task at times.
The structure of our classes shows kids the importance of focus and teaches them that focus by having them apply it to a combination of easily achievable activities that require their complete concentration at that time. They get to learn how to switch their focus on to the task at hand which is a skill they can take home - and into the classroom.
GOAL SETTING Through Set Criteria to Follow for Progression
Like all martial art schools we do promotions to progress through the syllabus. What we like to do a little differently though is provide each student, in their student folder, an outline of the module that they are currently studying. Alongside a complete chart of their belts from white to black and beyond. In the module page the student can see what is required for each grading with some handy tips and tricks for attaining it alongside the criteria that they need to be able to do to proceed.
SELF-DEFENCE Through Confidence and Movement
At the younger ages, confidence in their attitude and movement is one of the best deterrents. That and learning how to handle if someone name calls them or goes to try and hurt them. We show them ways of knowing when it's time to leave or time to physically defend themselves.
Helping Kids Deal With FRUSTRATION
Martial arts instruction requires students to pursue goals to earn new belts. Young kids can easily become frustrated when they don’t get what they want, but studying martial arts helps them learn the power of persistence.
The physical activity in our classes also helps kids manage stress and anxiety by allowing them to burn it off in a safe and constructive way.
